Mom

10" x 8" graphite on 140# Daler-Rowney paper

I think my mother’s always been a beautiful woman, even as her years have advanced. As a change from my regular painting day, I thought I’d do a quick sketch, and Mom seemed a worthy subject. I recently bought some water-soluble graphite pencils and wanted to try them out. I was rather timid, brushing on a bit of water to disperse some of the graphite; ‘timid’ because I just didn’t know what would happen and I didn’t want to wash away my drawing altogether. Only those who know my mom will know whether I caught her likeness—always a challenge with portraits!
