This painting is from my deciduous tree series, which was inspired by a larger commission. Prior to the commission request I had not thought to paint a grove of white-barked aspen; although, they could as easily have been birch or the alder trees so common to Cowichan Valley roadsides. This particular painting is also one of my ‘seasonals’ in that I painted one similar to this to represent each of spring, summer, fall and winter.
