Peace Like a River

11" x 14" watercolour on 300# Arches paper

With this painting, I was inspired by the peaceful and enduring Cowichan River, and with some artistic license for its setting, added a white bird, which could be in reality a seagull or less-likely, a dove. While I hope the river would endure forever, and it has flowed through this valley for millennia, changes in climate and increasing periods of local drought have periodically lowered its flows. My hope is that the river will prevail, along with its wild runs of salmon. The bird metaphor is obvious: I'm wanting peace in this world.
