Morning Light

8" x 10" watercolour on 140# Arches cold-pressed paper

A sunny day, perfect for some plein air painting. I started early, while the sun was still low with almost ethereal sunlight streaming through tall silhouetted tress. It was glorious! But the thing about painting outside is you have to paint fast, with light and shadow moving so quickly across the landscape. These dynamic conditions force you to make painting decisions quickly and take risks, both of which can lead to growth through problem-solving. My results are always looser, rougher, more spontaneous than I’d do in a studio setting.
